Sweet Granny

On Monday morning, January 18th, we received the phone call that Scott's sweet Granny had passed away. We packed up the car Tuesday morning and left to celebrate her life and ascention into Heaven. She was such a witty lady with such a sweet spirit. She was the cafeteria head at the local school for years in Zwolle, Louisiana. Scott fondly remembers the visits to her house where she would make biscuits from scratch and sausage. She would also have plenty of tamales on hand and there was only one way to eat them.....SPICEY HOT! I know her cackled laugh which used to light the room now lights Heaven. We are so thankful she was given such a full life here on Earth, but know she has been reunited with Grandpa Fred, which makes us all smile. Thank you Granny for all the sweet memories.

Please lift up Faye, Scott's mother, and all her siblings as they grieve this loss. They all loved her so much and took care of her in her last years with the same love she gave to them all their lives.

Our V-Day

So, I saw on the calendar it was Valentines Day yesterday....or "Love Day" per Blues Clues. Being politically correct for Valentine's Day? I mean, really....oh well, just not my thing I guess. I did enjoy a day home with our girls, making chocolate cupcakes and watching Mary Ella shovel down her "take" from her Valentine's party on Wednesday. We spent time outside since it is supposed to be wet all weekend. Then at 1:30 I get a phone call that sent us into management mode...You see, we have an ongoing saga with our Explorer. Back in June, I took it to the dealership because it was leaking transmission fluid. They said it needed a new "pan" and something else which we paid an arm and a leg for. We felt they weren't being totally honest with me about some things (way too long of a story), so we opted to have the transmission stuff repaired and to leave everything else they said was wrong alone and we were going to take it somewhere else to have inspected. So we picked the car up and the transmission was no longer leaking. Three weeks later Scott and I were taking the girls to eat and pulled out of our neighborhood only to her a horrible grind in the transmission. We turned around and took it to a mechanic in Galveston we had used before. The verdict was that the transmission needed to be replaced (a very expensive deal). Funny how Ford failed to see the transmission pan full of metal shavings that they had just worked on. Anyways, we got it replaced. It was in and out of the shop for a month because of a leak they couldn't seem to completely repair. Fast forward to now...Scott noticed it was continuing to leak. We took it to a shop that specialized in transmissions and he basically told us it wasn't done right to begin with and we needed to call the Galveston mechanic to have them do it right. So I called Scott who said it was going to be another late day and wasn't sure we would be able to get it all done. By the grace of God, he somehow managed to make it home so we could get it taken care of. After driving to Alvin down to Galveston and back up to our home it was 6:15 pm. We went through the Wendy's drive-thru and came home to have our Valentine's dinner. Again, I was given the gift of more than cooperative kiddos during this whole ordeal. I only heard, "I'm staaaaaarving" one time at the very end of our journey. So let this be another public service announcement....ANY time there is a problem with your transmission, DON'T take it to any car mechanic. Only take it to an actual transmission repair shop. Evidently, it is a highly specialized job......lesson learned.

Anyways, before the dreaded phone call. I captured some cute moments the kids had.

Y'all haven't seen Molly Kate in a while....check out the belly!

our tweeties

Rollin' around on the floor. Is 4 months old too young to start rough housing?

Addy loves to have her feet scratched and tickled.

All I need....

Scott has taken Mary Ella to gymnastics, Molly is asleep and Addy is entertaining herself, so I'm going to try and crank out a blog entry. We'll see if I can get through it :).

So I came across this Scripture that I read periodically from time to time. Today though, I, quite frankly, had to laugh at it. It is Luke 12:30-31

Your heavenly Father knows your needs. He will always give you all you need from day to day.

All I need? Really? It is all so subjective, isn't it? Yes, he gives me food, shelter, family, love.....but lately he's given me much more....

Well, caffeine is the major one. I know I've talked a lot about it lately, but really I only drink one cup in the morning....on a normal day. But as I said before there are those days when I can't seem to get enough steam. Also, with the house on the market, each time we leave it has to be perfect. Now, I've organized so that clean-up can occur within a reasonable amount of time. The kids know which boxes/baskets things go in. I've invested in some Clorox/ Windex wipes for the quick wipe offs of finger prints, drool, food smudges...whatever. The house has shown two times in two weeks. The latest of which was this morning. We got up with big plans because Scott was off...yea! We awoke, did breakfast, and took Scott's car in for a leak. We left with dishes in the sink, a load of clothes waiting to be folded in the chair, and scattered toys because what are the chances someone will want to see it now, right??? We returned home at 9:20 and there was a message asking to show the house at, um, 9:30am. YIKES! I looked at Scott and said, "get a garbage bag and bag it all up", so that is what we did. We threw it in the back of the car and away we went. Had Scott not been home, we may not have made it out the door, but we did. Of course, I was still not showered, had my shirt with spit up on it (from yesterday I might add) and my teeth were not brushed (eeewwww!). But, hey, we made it. During these last few weeks of house stuff, illnesses, etc God has given me cooperative kids just when I need it, a mild virus vs a major one, and given Molly the ability to stretch time between feeds just when I needed some extra time to complete things. So, yes, it is all about perspective. God has preserved my sanity...HALLELUIA!

Other Burlison family news includes the fact that we have finally broken down and bought our kiddos some Crocs. We have missed out on several trends and fads over the last 10 years, but finally joined the crowd. Granted, we are 3 years late and they might go out of style tomorrow, but we got them and they are so proud. Addy asked for them first thing this morning and wore them while eating breakfast. What made us do it? We've spent so much time outside lately trying to keep the house clean and enjoying this beautiful weather. Everytime we came in and out, I was donning/doffing shoes and socks. Since I'm all about making life a little easier right now....it was worth it.

Below is a picture of Mary Ella helping me get Addy's shoes on. Such a helper....I just loved this picture of Mary Ella. She is soaking up every little bit of creation.

Update on the kiddos:

We played so hard. They were both worn out. I found her alseep on the floor of her room. This was at 5pm.....

Mary Ella is doing great in school and continues to have great stories when she comes home. She and all the girls are busy playing "rescue the princess" while the boys play "Power Rangers" and pirates. Her artistic abilities have flourished and she is busy learning to spell/write and takes our "orders" often. She will sit and draw for hours.

Addy was sooooo tired, I had to wake her up.

Addy is now completely immersed in toddlerhood. She tests boundaries like crazy and cuts a look out of the corner of her eye paired with a smile like she's saying, "I'm about to do this thing I know is wrong, but you're going to let me get away with it, ok???" We had a time out marathon the other day. I think she visited the chair at least 5 times. She has gone from saying a few words to speaking in 4-5 word sentences mostly to assert her wants/needs:

"I wanna doe (go) with daddy"

"put on my does (shoes)"

"I wan mo mil peese" (I want more milk please)

She also likes to express her displeasures by saying, "heeeeyyyyy", just like her sister. Oh, and she definitely has the "nooooo" down. She has a favorite nightgown that she wants to wear every night. We often have to put it on over her other pajamas so she won't get cold. She is enjoying her ability to make us laugh often.

Molly Kate is growing and thriving. She is almost four months old. Her little smiles and giggles light up the room and she continues to be the rock star of the house. Her sisters often compete for the prime piece of real estate next to her side when she is on the floor. She has chubby legs and a tummy with lots of irresistible/kissable rolls on it. She rolls from her stomach to her back, although it is usually by accident and she lets me know by the blood curdling scream coming from her room that she needs to be turned back over. She is a very calm, easy going baby....again, God knew what I "needed".

Scott is getting up at 4:30 every morning to drive to Methodist, so he comes home late and very tired in the evenings. Let's just say I'm glad the month is already halfway over. I know he is too.

Now that you all are pretty well caught up on our happenings, I'm going to try and do a better job at updating more frequently. Sorry things have been so crazy. It's just that in the evenings I'd rather curl up with my hubby on the couch than sit in front of the computer.

Can you relate???

Have you ever had one of those days where you reheat coffee left in the pot 5 times only to take a couple of sips and then by the end of the day it tastes so bad that you have to make another pot just to get through??? Just wondering....

BAM!

So, I was stepping out of the shower yesterday and BAM! was hit with one of those questions I wasn't quite prepared for:

Mary Ella: What does "sucked" mean????
Me (inner monologue): Oh my GOOODNESSS!!!! Where on earth did she hear THAT????? I KNOW we don't use it around the house. Oh wait, oh wait....calm down and respond...
Me (response): Sucked??? (repeating it bought me a little more time to come up with something) Well, you know how you suck juice out of a straw or water out of the water fountain. Why???
Mary Ella: I was just wooooondering....

Now, is "sucked" the worst word in the slang vocabulary?...no...but there are just some things that don't sound "right" coming out of a wee one's mouth. I sure wish I knew the context in which she heard it. Oh my word, don't you know questions like that are just going to get more complicated????
