Scott is a great daddy to these three girls. He enjoys taking them out on "daddy-daughter" dates and they love to tag-along to one of his trips to Academy or Gander Mountain to look at tents. However, they always seem to show up with some random package of gummy worms or another flashlight. The last trip produced three bows and a target. We now have an archery set-up in the back yard. Scott also has become quite a weaponry specialist of sorts. He likes to collect guns and goes shooting with his buddies. Don't judge him....he has three daughters and thoroughly enjoys this male bonding time. In addition to these little field trips, he participates in a men's group where they read books and study the Word to further deepen their walk with Christ.
As I stated in the last post, he does continue to work for a local anesthesia group. Over the past few years his interest in pain medicine has grown. He enjoys doing procedures at work and has also found much satisfaction when helping people control their pain. As a result, he may pursue more formal training to become certified. This is something we are still praying about and trust that God will open those doors, if it is His will. If Scott does enter a program, it would take him a year to complete. You may be wondering if we will move? Well, he would, but I would stay and keep things steady at home. It does sound a bit overwhelming, but when I think of those people, like military spouses, who do it more often, I realize it would be just fine. After all, a year goes by so quickly these day, right???
Me? Well, I'm a wife, mom, meal planner, chauffeur, counselor, tight-rope walker, referee.....No, really, I enjoy "my job". I always get a little tickled when I get the question, "what will you do when they're all in school?". That will be next year, for those who do not know. Anyways, the answer is always the same..."I'm sure I'll fill it with something." You see, I really do treat this gig as a "job" and I wouldn't have it any other way. I went to lunch with some friends for the first time since, I don't know when, just a couple of weeks ago, my finger nails and toes are in horrible shape, I haven't had a facial since I was in my early twenties, and recreational shopping maybe happens a few times a year. On any given day, you will find me at the girls' school, church, cleaning, grocery shopping, driving kids to/from activities, and running the random errands that keep things running smoothly around here. One thing that has become a part of my daily routine which helps keep me balanced is exercising. I do cardio, weight training and Pilates during the week. I'm probably in the best shape I've ever been in and feel good. I have also enjoyed my Bible Study group each Fall and Spring and have developed some very special friendships along the way. Of course, some of our old friends remain very near and dear to us as well!
My mom has been waging war against metastatic cancer for 3 1/2 years now. She is just remarkable and is a testament to those who take care of themselves and how to continue to LIVE. Each day, she chooses to get up in the face of a horrible prognosis and do what she can. She tires easily, but will exercise, work in her garden, cook for others in need, and will go on lunch dates with friends. Her cancer has recently become a bit more aggressive, but she continues to fight taking each medicine change in stride. It is difficult to watch her struggle with the disease, but there is a peace knowing that she realizes this is all temporary and that, one day, she will be whole and perfect in Heaven for eternity. What a blessing her testimony and faith have been to all who know her.
Well, this is a very brief synopsis of what we are up to at this point. I promised not to write a novel....
