Long Road
I'm talking about Scott's medical career....it has been a long, yet worthy road. We've had to face many life lessons together, depend on each other, and believe in each other. I could go on and on about the dedication my husband has demonstrated over the last 12 1/2 years I've known him. He dropped his baseball scholarship to pursue a pre-med degree. When he didn't get into medical school for two years, he continued to study and take tests in order to improve. He finally was accepted into medical school in 2000. Despite having two brothers who were OB/GYNs and investing many research hours in that specialty, he made a last-minute decision to do anesthesiology. He knew who he was and what he wanted...I was so proud of him and happy he found something he was truly interested in. He was interviewed by some of the more prestigious programs in the country and matched at his first choice here at UTMB in Galveston. We've been here now for three years enduring the ups and downs of residency yet Scott's work ethic has never wavered. He truly excels in all that he does receiving many letters of commendation and two awards for going "above and beyond". I guess what I am trying to say is that I have known how great he is both as a person and as a physician. However, when others see it and acknowledge it, it validates all that I know about this great guy I call my husband. So when he called me today to tell me he had been offered one of the "chief resident" positions, I cried. Was I surprised? Absolutely not. I was so overwhelmed knowing that God called him to this specialty, this place, at this time and he listened despite many people telling him not to do it. It leaves me wondering, how on earth did I land this guy????

When our son called and "casually"
mentioned that he would be the chief resident in anesthesiology, we were proud of him, but certainly
not surprised. We knew when God gave him to us he would be SPECIAL!
He has always shown maturity and integrity beyond his years. He is an

father and doctor.Our hearts are
overwhelmed with love for him and
his family. Mom and Dad
Congratulations!!! I'm very proud of both of you. Scott, for everything that he has accomplished with such grace, and you for being such a strong support mechanism for your adorable family.
See you soon!
When Courtney called me years ago saying "This is the one" I was a bit skeptical mostly because of their young age. She encouraged me to not pass judgment until I met him. Well, I have to say she was right. Scott is a wonderful husband, father and friend. He has worked hard and kept amazing faith on his journey through med school and residency. I am also very proud of my sister for the hard work, faith and support she has put into her family and marriage.
Congratulations to both of you!!!
