OK, it is fairly obvious that Mary Ella looks like me and Addy Scott looks just like her father. It is also true in personality. Mary Ella is very much like me and Addy Scott is very much like her father. So I guess the two are named appropriately. As a result of Mary Ella's "Courtney traits" she and I tend to go head to head to see whose stubbornness will actually win out. I am still fairly successful at these attempts to discipline, but realize my day is coming when I might not be able to contain my composure. With that said, I've been meaning to tell this "blogworthy" story for a while and for some reason keep forgetting (again, the "fog of motherhood" excuse).
Mary Ella's excitement and impulsivity had gotten the best of her requiring an apology. I asked her to apologize and she quickly responded with a rather-emphatic/sassy "NO!". It was at that point I told her to go to her "time-out" chair and again, she refused. I then gave her "the choice" of time-out or a spanking (Something I rarely do. Usually by bringing out the spoon, desirable behavior magically reappears). Well, after much thought and pressure to make a choice she responded, "I want a spanking, BUT do it bery, bery gently...OK?" She proceeded to demonstrate just how gently I should do it. I tried not let her see me smile, but how do you respond to that? So I picked her up and put her in time-out where she was finally able to give a sincere apology. Despite how difficult it is at times, I do love the "spark" in her personality that is all her own. There is never a dull moment.
Addy Scott....the patty-cakin, mommy lovin, banana lovin baby that has a "spark" all her own. She does not let her sister overshadow her very often. If she wants something, she demands it. If Mary Ella does injustice (i.e. take a toy away) she lets us know immediately. However, there is NOTHING Addy Scott loves more than giggling at her sister's silly behavior. Mary Ella performs and Addy Scott is very content with being her audience (this is very Scott-like). Scott is a "quiet instigator". This provides for some very entertaining and loud moments around here.

I had to laugh at your reference to "loud moments." I remember when we were praying for God to give us a child making the statement, "I am so tired of my house being quiet." Hmmm, I think God solved that one!
